ITHACA, N.Y. — The Ithaca-Tompkins International Airport (ITH) will add two new daily flights to Washington Dulles International Airport in March, restoring a route that was eliminated three years ago. Around the same time, though, daily flight service to Newark Liberty International Airport will end.
A third daily flight will be added in August, according to an announcement from Tompkins County officials Friday. The flights, through United Airlines, will seat 50 people per route. United operates 250 daily flights out of Dulles, which will grow to 280 by spring 2025.
It appears a round-trip ticket will cost $461 to start, and a one-way ticket will cost $231.
Ticket prices, often mentioned as a deterrent at ITH, are determined by the airline factoring demand, timing and how far in advance they are purchased, according to ITH air service development administrator Chris Stephany.
“These new flights will offer our travelers more consistent and convenient connections to the nation’s capital and United’s extensive global network,” said Roxan Noble, the airport’s director, in the announcement. “This route is a significant step forward in enhancing connectivity for our community.”
Other officials celebrated the announcement, including Tompkins County Legislature Chair Dan Klein, who praised its economic benefits and travel possibilities.
Stephany told 14850.com that United had already decided to end service between Ithaca and Newark in spring next year prior to the Dulles announcement, since construction on renovations at the Newark airport will leave less space for runways.
