BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (NASCENT) — Fans of Hacienda Mexican Restaurant are pushing back against plans for a marijuana retail store at its South Side location, 1171 Vestal Avenue. The state recently approved a cannabis license for the site, a move the restaurant’s operators say they were unaware of.

Mayor Jared Kraham voiced concerns, stating the proposal would displace a “great locally-owned restaurant” and emphasized the process is “not a done deal.” If the license holder applies for city approval, a public hearing will allow residents to share their views before a special use permit is issued.

Supporters of the restaurant, which has served the community for over six years, have expressed frustration, questioning the need for another marijuana store. Residents can provide feedback to the city planning department via email.
