The 35th annual Society of Adventist Communicators (SAC) convention was held October in Oak Brook Hills, Illinois, from 17th to 19th October 2024.
A significant highlight of this year’s convention was the exploration of artificial intelligence (AI) and its implications for church communication. Discussions centered on AI’s potential, ethical considerations, and practical applications.
Savannah Carlson, the director of Human Resources and Communication for the Minnesota Conference, noted the importance of responsible technology use, stating, “We need to be intentional about what we do with our technology, using it in the best ways possible.”
For Liz Kirkland of the Rocky Mountain Conference, the AI discussions were particularly beneficial. As a solo communicator in her role, she found practical insights to utilize AI as a time-saving tool, which could be invaluable for small teams operating with limited resources. This practical approach to integrating emerging technologies resonated with many attendees, who valued the strategies for enhancing efficiency and impact.
Caleb Durant, communication director for the Iowa-Missouri Conference, found the focus on AI especially valuable. His takeaway was about leveraging AI to extend the capacities of small teams, stating, “The biggest thing I’m taking back to my conference is how we can use Ai and other media tools to do more with fewer resources.”
