New York state officials and industry leaders gathered in Binghamton for the first New York State Infrastructure Summit, aiming to strengthen infrastructure in support of the state’s growing clean energy and tech sectors, especially in the Southern Tier. With the region developing into a hub for clean energy and battery innovation, leaders from across federal, state, and local levels discussed plans to expand infrastructure that will sustain this growth.

Jen Gregory, Executive Director of the Southern Tier 8 Regional Board, highlighted the importance of preparing infrastructure, including industrial sites and housing, across the 14-county area designated as a federal tech hub for battery development. Jeff Gasper, CEO of Southern Tier Network, emphasized the role of power, broadband, and cybersecurity in building a secure and interconnected network to support both public safety and business needs.

This summit marks the beginning of ongoing discussions to meet the demands of a rapidly growing advanced tech industry in the Southern Tier and across New York. Further conversations are planned to continue into the coming year, as leaders work toward reaching New York’s clean energy and infrastructure goals.
