Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan announced appointments to fill two city vacancies following the 2024 elections. Richard Conti will return to the Albany Common Council to fill the 6th Ward seat vacated by Gabriella Romero, who was elected to the state Assembly. Conti previously served as the 6th Ward councilmember from 1997 to 2021 and will begin his new one-year term on January 1, 2025.

Additionally, Marisa Franchini, the city’s corporation counsel since 2020, will be appointed as a city court judge to replace Ricja Rice-Ghyll, who was elected to Albany County Family Court. Robert Magee, the city’s deputy corporation counsel since 2018, is expected to succeed Franchini as corporation counsel, pending final confirmation.
