NEW YORK CITY — Rapper Tekashi 6ix9ine, legally known as Daniel Hernandez, has been sentenced to one and a half months in prison after violating the conditions of his supervised release. The sentence, handed down by U.S. District Judge Paul Engelmayer, slightly exceeded the recommendation from federal prosecutors.

Hernandez, 27, admitted to multiple violations, including unauthorized travel to Las Vegas and Sarasota, Florida, and failing to meet drug testing requirements. He also tested positive for methamphetamines, contributing to his supervised release breaches.

“You believe the rules don’t apply to you,” Judge Engelmayer remarked, highlighting the seriousness of Hernandez’s disregard for court conditions. Referring to the rapper’s 2020 early release from prison after cooperating with prosecutors, the judge noted, “Your breach of the court’s trust is profound”.

In court, Hernandez expressed regret over his actions and pleaded for leniency. “I don’t want to go back in the box,” he said. Despite his appeal, the judge imposed the prison term, marking yet another chapter in Hernandez’s ongoing legal challenges.

Hernandez first encountered legal troubles in 2018 when he was charged with federal racketeering and murder conspiracy for his involvement with the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods, a gang implicated in violent activities across New York City. Prosecutors reduced his sentence after he cooperated with authorities and testified against former gang associates.

This latest sentencing underscores the ongoing impact of Hernandez’s high-profile criminal history. His career and involvement with the gang have drawn substantial media coverage and public scrutiny.
