ITHACA, N.Y. — The Tompkins County Department of Probation and Community Justice launched two new online dashboards Thursday, showing data on adult and minor probation programs, including outcomes and demographic details.

Staff at the department developed the dashboards to increase transparency about the more than 450 open supervision cases the department manages.

Over the last few years, staff at law enforcement agencies in the county have developed and released their own data dashboards for public use as part of the Reimagining Public Safety police reform efforts.

The Ithaca Police Department released its dashboard in June 2022. The county’s district attorney’s office followed suit, releasing a comprehensive dashboard in 2023, which incorporates data from state agencies, university police departments and village police departments.

The Tompkins County Sheriff’s Office released its dashboard in August 2024, which contained data showing impaired driving collisions and the number of tickets that officers administered in the last three years. Data showing arrests, jail statistics and incident reports will be published throughout the year, according to department staff.

The Community Justice Center, a collaboration between the city of Ithaca and the county created to implement plans formulated in the landmark police reform project Reimagining Public Safety, launched its comprehensive dashboard in April 2024.

The CJC’s dashboard was created to act as a collective space where members of the public could access the information included in the aforementioned databases in one place.

The probation department will host a virtual event on Oct. 23 at 12 p.m. to provide an overview and user instruction. Staff are encouraging those interested in attending to register in advance.
